subject: Passion, Influences And Decision Factors To Become A Medical Transcriptionist [print this page] Communication in the medical field is one of the most important factors to properly and effectively treat patients. Reports that medical professionals give have to be clear, concise and detailed for other professionals to understand. Any mistake in a report can lead to ineffective and even faulty treatment patients receive. In order to accurately translate the language of the physician to a written document, it is the duty of the medical transcriptionist. Medical transcriptionists play vital roles in medical communication through the translation and accuracy of dictated medical reports. Not only do these professionals have to have a generalized understanding of the medical field, they also need to know proper terminology physicians use. These transcriptionists are the door ways of communication between physicians and technicians through writing. As a Medical Administrative Assistant, one of the major duties to my position is to have daily access with medical reports.
I constantly read dictated reports to find diagnoses, prescriptions, and future plan of care actions. Local medical facilities may need certain information that a medical dictated report contains in which I have to relate. Pharmacies may call for clarifications on prescription dosages and directions of how the physician would like for the patient to take the medication. Furthermore, lab work or radiological tests may have been ordered by the physician, which directs the office personnel to write orders based off of the report. No matter what the request may be, a dictated medical report is vital in regard to communication between health care workers. Based upon my work experience in the medical field, there has always been a passion to write and to work as a health care professional. I have worked to master and diversify my skills as a writer since I started my career in the medical field. Not only do I have a passion to help people, but I also have a passion to write. Becoming a Medical Transcriptionist will not only increase my knowledge in the medical field, but it will allow me to combine my writing and administrative skills.
Since I have experience working with other health care professionals, becoming a Medical Transcriptionist will help enhance and diversify my level of knowledge as an Administrator as it will also allow me to efficiently administrate effective health care to patients, health facilities and of the alike. Work from home jobs has many advantages. The benefit of working at home is always a wonderful benefit, but even if there is a need to work in an office/ clinical setting, the knowledge of relating physician language and information to others is very beneficial. Working as an MT is a solid, promising career choice as it is also financially generous. My choice to become a Medical Transcriptionist was influenced by my current role in the medical field. Not only did I want to advance my knowledge and skills of health related information, I also wanted to advance to an area where I could utilize my passion to write, potentially stay at home at work full-time (at my own pace) with my 4 month old son and re-locate without worrying about quitting, termination of benefits and of the alike. There are so many advantages to working as a Medical Transcriptionist and I would like to partake in those benefits. Becoming a Medical Transcriptionist would allow me to possibly advance so well, that I would start my own transcribing business, which would include linking up with certifying institutions such as Future MT to employ persons interested in this field. I would like to stay in the generalized area of Internal Medicine; however, I would be open to multi-tasking to Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and even Emergency Medicine (ER). My hopes in taking courses through Future MT would be to become a Certified Medical Transcriptionist, of which I would like to advance to a Registered Medical Transcriptionist. Conclusively, it with a strong desire and passion that I choose the career field of a Medical Transcriptionist. I believe that I would positively impact this area of expertise and advance greatly. Due to the economy, my husband has been without employment since the birth of our first born in September of 2009. We have struggled a bit to pay our bills and to save (if thats even possible) due to my employment being the only source of income. Therefore, I desire greatly to become a Certified Medical Transcriptionist and become employed through medical transcription employers that will solidly lock in our income, even if only one member in the home is working. The aide of full tuition being paid for will help out tremendously.
