subject: Why You Should Work At Email List Building [print this page]

Your email list building can become the basis of your entire Internet presence. You could create a steady income stream, a reputation for success in marketing based upon your lists statistics. These can then be used to make offers to other marketers to further enhance your reputation. Once this has reached a certain level you can then start to create high priced offers and know that they will sell.

You can live the dream.

In the beginning when you are starting out, you are bombarded by constant marketing pitches and these feel like personal messages to you, the sender wants you and you alone to succeed. If they have written the message correctly, it is quite easy to forget that they are using an automated system to send this same message to all of their subscribers. This does not make you stupid or gullible, it makes you human and this is the power of the email list building system.

The money is said to be in the list, but really it is in the relationship. When they send the message, if they can deliver offers that make the reader feel special and as someone who deserves the unique offer, then the sale is more likely to occur, and you will feel engaged with them, the relationship has been formed.

When developing an email list building strategy it is vital to be clear as to who you are trying to engage with, there is no point talking about the benefits of 16 litre monster trucks to a list of environmental campaigners as they are not going to be sympathetic to your message. Each marketing area will need a separate list, and indeed sometimes it makes sense to create a new list for each offer that you promote, then once the series of emails has been completed you can transfer them to the main list for that niche. Do not try to run too many long term lists. The whole point of Internet marketing is to get off the treadmill and enjoy what you are doing, do not recreate you own version of the employee prison that you are trying to escape from.

Email list building is a vital area of your on-line marketing as it can act as a safety net should your other income streams fail or be shutdown due to technical or policy changes. Once you have engaged with your list and it has become responsive you will always have this to use as a steady income stream to use when required.

Another reason for building a list is that you can use each list to maximise you marketing, by having a membership base that has shown an interest in your dialogue and may even respond to your messages.

This is an important point, when was the last time you had a conversation with your list? I see far too many messages that do not include a reply function, if you want to create an active list then encourage the readers to engage with you and challenge your ideas, over time you will learn what the active members are interested in. Active readers are important, they are the people that are actually reading your messages and taking action. Simply use a real email address to send the messages, use Gmail if you are concerned about spam and encourage people to reply with their comments.

Eventually your list may grow to a size where you can offer to send out other marketers offers, or if you have been networking and making your presence on the Internet then you could be begged to open your list to their offers. Either way if you know what your list likes and how often they open the messages and indeed what messages they will open. You can advise your friends as to the type of messages to provide for your list.

Think about this, a top marketer wants you to send out their message and you say no because the offer is not of interest to your list. That could be the end of your career, but you offer to rewrite the message in words that your list will like. You then return with the results to show that your version was successful. I think you can guess what will happen to your reputation.
