subject: Rollerskating Waitresses [print this page]

Rollerskating waitresses were once a regularity but have now become a rarity. The tradition, however, is being brought back by chains such as Sonic Drive-in and Ruby's Diner. Customers can now go to a burger joint and feel like you have stepped back into the 60's.

Quicker service isn't the reason for these rollerskating waitresses. They are used to entertain the customers. Now, instead of just receiving a meal, customers also get a show.

This isn't the first time Sonic has used skaters. They were a natural feature of these restaurants in 60's and 70's. But in the 80's and 90's, rollerskating waitresses were no longer employed by Sonic.

Now, thirty years later, these rollerskating waitresses are back in style. And these two chains are doing all they can to bring them back. With customers happier and doing more business because of them, rollerskates are becoming a popular commodity for these fast-food restaurants.

Customers aren't the only happy party. The rollerskating car hops enjoy it, also. Workers wearing skates make more than those who do not.

There are times when these skaters go on to do more than entertain customers at the restaurant. Some go on to entertain America on national television. Kelly Pickler, for example, went from rollerskating at Sonic to performing on American Idol.

Skating car hops have proven to be a nice addition to these drive-ins. Annually, Sonic stores that employ skaters are shown to make $50,000 more than those who don't. It is these skaters that set these chains apart from other burger joints.

As these restaurants take the time to entertain their customers while fulfilling their needs, the customers are happier. A nostalgic feel radiates from these drive-ins. It's a feel that customers seem to flock to.
