subject: What Is Included On The Iseb Foundation Cerficiate In Software Testing Course? [print this page]

ISEB is BCS' examination arm and their accredited foundation certificate in software testing is an internationally recognised qualification necessary to progress to further, advanced levels in software testing. The foundation certificate is the first certificate for IT specialists who wish to diversify into areas such as business analysis, software development, information security and IT service management.

Know the syllabus; this is available online from a number of bodies, including BCS and ISEB direct. It specifies the areas delegates must study and the depth of knowledge required to sit the examination. It also carries information on module weighting, pass marks and past papers. As with all examinations, past papers form an integral part of the revision process.

Learn key terms from the glossary; a glossary is provided via ISEB and their advanced qualification arm, ISTQB. Failure to learn from a glossary may result in delegates missing key elements of information and ignoring best practice procedures. In a similar way, assuming knowledge can be equally detrimental. As with the syllabus, a key terms glossary and approved reading list can be found online or will be distributed by your training provider.

Obtain further support materials using BS7925; This is the BCS software component testing standard. As a resource, this underpins the techniques taught and assessed by the ISEB foundation certificate. Sub chapters include working practices, discussion and review, functional and non functional testing.

In addition to the syllabus, there are a number of support materials available to increase student's background knowledge, these include books and online forums, for which tutors will be bale to provide details. In order to enter for examination, delegates must hold a minimum of two years experience in IT. This pre-requisite is not a deterrent but necessary to guarantee all students will progress at a pace suited to their own development.
