subject: Some Considerations On Why Buy A New Patio Home [print this page]

Americans have coined the term patio home with reference to a specific type of housing. It is a loose description of several houses in a group that may be attached to each other and share several features such as a wall or a fence. In many cases a single shared wall is all that separates neighbors. This group of tenants will, in many cases, share maintenance and landscaping costs by collectively paying a fee to an association. Some points about why buy a new patio home are discussed below.

People who buy this type of property are the type of people who have no interest in the maintenance side of home ownership and who perhaps only spend short periods of time in the house each year. Costs of maintenance to the exterior is often handled by a Home Owner Association and will include common ground maintenance, roofing maintenance, repairs to the exterior, landscape upkeep and many other expenses.

Patio homes are fairly popular with the Baby Boomers who are now retired, mainly because the house can be locked up and left if it is being used as a vacation home. There is another advantage, that of owning a single family home. They tend to offer a little more privacy than the other type of housing such as townhouses or condos. The essential services may also be delegated to the Home Owner Association.

Privacy is of prime importance to many people with a lot less noise being generated by direct neighbors. Having said that, there may be advantages to keeping on friendly terms with neighbors for security reasons.

A typical group of homes may have a yard with space to park a recreational vehicle, a swimming pool, a lawn and stables for the owners of a horse. There may be enough space for a variety of other amenities.

Many of these properties are able to be expanded by adding additional rooms, workshops, or any other similar extensions.

The erection of a garage is often one of the first additions to any new cluster home. A shared swimming pool is also fairly common.

This type of home is a great deal less expensive than the normal single family house. They are not as crowded as many condominiums or townhouses are.

This type of home is generally of a single story construction, and this added to the reduced cost of maintenance makes it attractive to retired couples many of whom elect to share the facilities with couples of like age. This is more comfortable to this group of seniors who may have misgivings about sharing the cluster with younger families. It is hoped this article about why buy a new patio home has helped in reaching a decision.
