subject: Creating A Successful Corporate Team Building Event [print this page]

Just mention the word corporate team building event to your team and you are bound to get a string of fake reasons to be excused from the event. This is not very surprising considering that most corporate team building events have become irrelevant to the employees of the organization. The fun element is either too much or too little and people see little value addition by sacrificing an entire day prancing around with other thirty something adults.

This does not mean that corporate team building events are not useful. Creating a successful corporate team building event requires a lot of planning and coordination. The first step is to ascertain the objectives of the team building event. Is it an event meant creating a sense of togetherness or is there more such as motivating the teams, encouraging communication or handling conflicts and problem solving? How relevant and how aware are the teams about these issues? Then design relevant games that can provide insight to employees on those particular aspects. If hiring an external agency, brief the agency about the organization and make them meet up with a few leaders of the organization or the team to understand their expectations. Irrespective of the objectives, ensure there is a fair share of work and play as all work and no play, makes jack and jill a dull boy and girl!
