Stained teeth can be a problemStained teeth can be a problem. You may have healthy teeth ' no decays and all, but if your teeth aren't very white, you are bound to have self-confidence problems. The thing is, you don't have to put up with stained teeth. There is something you can do about it. You can eliminate stains by using home teeth whitening methods that are not only inexpensive, but easy to use as well.

To find out which product would suit you best, you need to know what caused your teeth's discoloration. It can be caused by frequent wine, coffee or tea consumption, as well as smoking. Also, your teeth is bound to get a yellowish hue as you get older, because stains sometimes manage to seep through, as time passes by. Home teeth whitening products work best for yellow stains.

The hard truth is that while some of these products can be very effective, it will not work for everyone. There are cases when no one but a professional can give you a whiter set of teeth; by chair-side bleaching and gel treatment or through dental crowns, dental bonding and setting veneers. A particular example is a tooth which needs restructuring. These methods are very expensive, with the costs ranging from $300 to $3000. If you only have the regular yellowish stains, you're in luck because you can use home teeth whitening methods.

If you are looking to whiten your teeth at home, you can go for whitening strips, gels or brush-on whitening formulas. At $3 to $5, the brush-on toothpaste and whitening formula are the cheapest. Whitening strips costs around $15 for a package which is good for 10 days. Whitening gels are priced at around $10. It is more effective when used with a mouthguard, but this home teeth whitening kit will cost around a hundred.

Whitening strips are the easiest to use. Just place these thin plastic strips on your teeth and let the peroxide coating do the work. Remove them after 20 to 30 minutes. The brush-on products are easy to use as well. Instead of using regular toothpaste, go for one which contains a bleaching agent. Applying the paint-on formula can be a little difficult though because it has to be applied on dry teeth. The mouthguard filled with whitening gel is the most effective system but it is not as easy to use as the previous methods. You also have to wear the mouthguard for a longer period, usually a few hours.

Keep in mind that home whitening systems won't last as long as chair-side bleaching or gel treatment which can last up to 3 years. However, with the low costs of home teeth whitening products, it shouldn't be too hard to redo the process every year.
