subject: Learn The Truth About Liposuction And Cellulite [print this page]

We all know itWe all know it. We can all recognize it. Those lumpy, cottage cheese chunks of fat on our thighs and buttocks: cellulite. Though pop culture would like to believe it is a disease, it is merely dimpled skin.

Logic would indicate that since cellulite is fat, it can be removed by the well-known fat-removal procedure: liposuction. Before you rush off to the doctor with that assumption, think again!

Cellulite is caused by the swelling of fat cells beneath the skin, causing collagen connective tissues to bend. This bending stretches the skin into those oh-so-unwanted cellulite patterns resembling dimples.

It is the result of fat, but actually, the appearance of cellulite is no indication of someone's body fat levels. It can appear on even healthy or underweight people, and just losing weight will not guarantee the loss of cellulite.

Most doctors agree that it is not generally dangerous to one's health, but many consider it dangerous to their social lives.

There is debate in the medical community on the relationship between cellulite remove and liposuction. One well-known New York doctor recommends it on his website as an effective cellulite treatment, and he is not the only one.

Doctors of his mindset claim that in younger people, liposuction may reduce cellulite by causing a disconnect between the collagen connective tissues and the swelling fat layers. In older people, though, they claim it is more likely to increase dimpling.

Not all doctors agree. Liposuction is designed to remove fat, but on a lower layer than the cellulite-causing fat layers, so most doctors say it is not likely to do much as far as minimizing cellulite. As a matter of fact, they say it might even make cellulite worse. After lipoplasty, when the fat is removed, it is not uncommon for your skin to become looser and more stretched out, which may actually make the appearance of cellulite worse!

Though doctors do not exactly agree on liposuction's cellulite-reducing powers, it is important to remember that it is not designed as a cellulite treatment, so its effects are difficult to predict and cannot be guaranteed. Also, it is generally agreed upon in the medical community that though it may reduce the appearance of cellulite, lipoplasty is not a permanent cure for it.

If you are bent on getting rid of your cellulite, liposuction might not be the best avenue. However, fear not! There are other cosmetic procedures designed specifically to target cellulite removal.
