subject: 3 Reasons Why Promotional Products Work [print this page]

Promotional products work on many levels and can become useful tools for marketing campaigns through out the year. Whether you are handing out flyers on the street corner, posting calendars in the mail or personally handing something to your valued customer at Christmas time, an item with your company name on it can work for your business.

Exposure - Promotional items are a cost effective way to get your business name, brand name or logo out there. It might not be as dramatic as a billboard, but promotional items work to get your business name out into the physical world. Whether you choose every day items such as pens and calendars or more specialised articles such a shirts or umbrellas, your brand will be visible to the people you want seeing it. You can choose if you want them to see it every day as they work at their desk, or driving their car or if you want them seeing your brand name as they lay out their beach towel for a relaxing day at the beach or pulling off their club protectors as they go for a round of golf.

Reinforcing - by having your name, brand or logo on a product, you are effectively reinforcing your brand to the world. You are making a statement. When you have your company name or symbol on an item you are telling people that your business is worth investing in. You are also making a statement that your product or service is worth telling others about. You are reinforcing and differentiating your brand against others. You are reminding your customers that you are here and ready to serve. You could choose promotional packaging for your product. What better way to reinforce your brand with your customer than by giving them your product in a bag with your name on it?

Association - By choosing wisely, you can have your brand associated with just about anything. A company that values eco friendly processes, or perhaps adheres to certain environmental standards might choose promotional items that reflect these values. By choosing a eco -friendly promotional item you are positively associating your brand with green values. An upmarket service industry, such as a hotel might choose a high quality, Egyptian cotton bath towel to put their name and logo on. Choosing a high quality item that is also related to their industry will spell out to their clients that they value high quality items and service and that you as the customer can expect this same high quality when you choose to stay at this hotel. Appealing to your target market by association will make it easy for your customers to choose you, when they know you have the same values as they do.

Or on another angle, a business that is looking to appeal to a broader or more diverse clientele might choose a promotional product that is not related to their industry but might be humourous or novelty and thereby making the statement that they are relatable and approachable. Choosing an item that might seem unrelated can often bring attention to an aspect of your business that is not readily known but that you are trying to highlight.
