subject: Football Shorts - The Long And Short Of It [print this page]

If you have ever watched a professional football team take the pitch you are certain to have noticed their uniforms. Fairly simple as professional athletic apparel goes, the typical footballer's uniform consists of a jersey, football shorts and socks. Under the socks are shin guards and on the feet are cleats, but other than that, there is no padding, no helmet, no added bulk. Football is a fast, hard sport that leaves its players running for a full 90 minutes and giving it everything that they have got. It is unusual to find a footballer on the field that is not covered in sweat very shortly into the game.

To the casual observer, a footballer's uniform may seem nothing more than window dressing, but the truth of the matter is that the right uniform can actually help improve a footballer's play. A good pair of football shorts will help keep a player cool and dry, preventing any uncomfortable chaffing or rubbing while they are running their hardest up and down the field. There have been great advances in fabric technology over the last several decades and there are few places that these advances are applied more than in shorts. Most of the major brands use a combination of special wicking fabrics, mesh panels and special construction to ensure that their football shorts are not only attractive but functional.

The last thing that any players want when they hit the pitch is to be uncomfortable in their football shorts. Good football shorts fit well but are not at all restrictive, allowing players to have the greatest freedom and range of motion possible. Today's market finds many options available to football clubs. Ranging from higher end brands like Nike and Adidas to more affordable options such as Stanno and ProStar, football shorts are available in a wide range of colours and styles. Many clubs will go another step further and have their shorts customized with player numbers and perhaps sponsor logos as well.

It has been said that the clothes help make the man. In the case of football shorts, it can be said that the shorts help make the man a better player. If your players can spend less time worrying about a biding waistband or chaffing groins they can spend more time worrying about getting the next goal, and isn't that the whole point? Now it's time to find out much more about how you can change your game with the right apparel today!
