The journey of a soul from birth to life then death, and then again birth and it continues, is what past lives reincarnation is all about. Literally, reincarnation means being in the form of flesh yet again. Reincarnation forms the basis of eternal life. It states that a constituent of the living body is born again after it goes through death in the new physical body, this constituent being our immortal soul.

Mostly, you will find individuals who believe that past lives reincarnation is a process that will go on forever. But, many are of the view that this journey of the spirit through birth, life and death and rebirth is actually the journey of the soul from a stage of darkness to the final state of spiritual enlightenment. However, a question that keeps on lingering in our mind is why the soul needs to go through this journey of past lives reincarnation?

Individuals, who are fascinated by this mesmerizing concept, would like to gain more knowledge on this subject. Through their research they have to a certain degree tried to get an answer to this question. The answer is that the soul in this process of reincarnation gets a chance to acquire experiences in this world, a scope to express itself and gain more knowledge and wisdom while it goes through the varying experiences of life at each rebirth.

The other one is Jnana yoga or the path which will help us to gain knowledge and the third one is Karma yoga or the path or service.

Whichever yoga we practice among the three all will ultimately take us to the same destination of unification with God or in other words attain the heights of spiritual wisdom and will forever free our soul from the tedious process of past lives reincarnation. However, whichever path we follow, regardless of that, our choices, experiences and judgments sets our lives and also defines us and our limitations.

The day we learn to accept what God has given us and start to live on that, we will completely trust Him. This will eventually lead us to the path of self acceptance and thus we will gain peace in our heart. The peace will help us to increase the desire within us to make others happy thus, we will be able to understand to what great capacity our heart can go of loving others and also caring for them So, we will move towards the path of freeing ourselves from past lives reincarnation.

You can find this principle of past lives reincarnation mostly spoken of in the Eastern philosophy. Although, this philosophy was rejected by the West but still you can find many people in the West who firmly believe this philosophy. The doctrine of past lives reincarnation is mentioned in the writings of many philosophers, prophets and sages irrespective of country and culture.

The early civilization of Egypt was erected on the basic form of this principle of reincarnation. Herodotus an ancient Greek historian from the 5th century, on this says, "The Egyptians propounded the theory that the human soul is imperishable, and that where the body of any one dies it enters into some other creature that may be ready to receive it." Even Plato, the classical Greek philosopher, mathematician and a renowned writer of many philosophical dialogues have a similar view when he says, "Soul is older than body. Souls are continually born over and over again into this life." It has been estimated that around three fourths of the population of the whole of Asia believe in this principle of past lives reincarnation.
