subject: Go To Your Happy Place [print this page] We have all heard of the demanding training that our Special Operations troops have to endure in order to be qualified to perform in their area of service. Every special operator in the United States military must learn how to master the fear, doubt, and negative thoughts that fill his mind in stressful times. You need to know how to apply these lessons to your own life also in order to be successful. Our special operators have to go through the toughest military training in the world and the strange thing is that it is not the biggest or strongest man that survives the training. It is not uncommon to see the one that looks like the ninety pound weakling breeze through the training while the biggest and strongest will cop out or just simply find that he is unable to endure the physical hardship.
What then is the difference in the dropout and the one who successfully completes the course? The difference is mental. One thing that I learned from my time in military service is that you cant judge a person by his or her outer appearance. The person who perseveres is the one who has the right frame of mind. The one who can figure out a way to trick his or her mind into not quitting for one more minute and then for another minute is the one who will endure to the end. The one who focuses on the hardship at hand is the one which will not make it through hard times.
In order to go through this training they have to be taught how to endure physical pain, suffering, fatigue, and discomfort. The military trains them how to be mentally tough which they must master in order to complete the training. They have to learn how to disassociate themselves from the physical and mental hardships of training in order to make it through. The term that I have heard associated with this is going to your happy place. They have to learn how to mentally place themselves in a frame of mind that focuses on something other than the pain. This is done by visualizing on a positive situation rather then the situation that they are actually in.
Do you have a happy place? Have you learned to focus on the end rather than the present time? Will you let fear overtake you and prevent you from going forward? If you are in a tough situation you must diligently continue to try to work your way out of it. Dont dwell on the mess that you are in because that will do absolutely nothing to help you come out of it. Learn how to laugh in the middle of your problem. Dont let your mind master you. You need to master your mind and thoughts and think what you want to think not what the present situation and your mind want to tell you to think. You are the master of your mind it is not your master.
The biggest thing that I can glean from this is that you shouldnt fight the problem. When you do so the problem is actually right there in your mind. In a sense you have to learn how to roll with the punches and enjoy the ride. This becomes an exercise in mental discipline which is exactly the thing that the military wants to accomplish. We need to learn this same kind of discipline in our daily lives.
You need to focus on the positive and disregard the negative. You are not denying reality, you are simply choosing to push it aside and replace it with something better. Learn how to go to your happy place. Riceland Enterprises
