subject: How Does An Electric Golf Cart Work-some Info [print this page]

The function of a Golf cart is to help in the transport of golfers inside the golf course. They are developed in such a way to provide comfort, safety and other needs of the riders. The products can be either gas powered or electric. The low center of gravity of the cart prevents the cart from tumbling over, while traversing over terrain that varies and also prevents the beverages from spilling.

Electric carts were the first of this category to be introduced. It came up in 1951 and was preferred due to its less pollution and noise. Gas powered carts were introduced later. Electric golf carts were slower than the gas powered ones and so they could peter out towards the of an 18 hole match.

The first generation electric golf carts used batteries for their working. They used rechargeable batteries which could be easily charged by plugging to an electrical energy source. Modern technology and developments lead to solar powered batteries, which are used in the carts nowadays. The solar panel is fixed on the carts roof and is powered by suns rays.

The battery needs to be serviced well for their proper working. The cells should be filled with distilled water. If the cells tend to become dry, then fire may break out. So, regular maintenance is necessary.

The Electric carts do not have much pick up power and so tend to catch up speed very slowly. You might also find it difficult to drive it uphill. Take care while driving as electric carts are very quiet and is difficult for other motorists to hear it.

It is quite fun and easy to drive a cart. When you need to go forward, just put the key to D position and press the accelerator. The cart will move forward at a decent speed without spilling your beverage. When you need to stop the cart, just disengage the accelerator. The cart will come to a stop and there is no need for any handbrake or gear. And if you want to go in reverse direction, turn the key to position R. Now press the accelerator and see the cart go backwards.
