subject: Making Your Home More Energy Efficient [print this page]

In a world where we are all being encouraged to be more energy efficient and this is especially so when it comes to homes as there are plenty of ways you can make them more eco-friendly. These methods are not new and have been around for many years so there is no short of advice and techniques that homeowners can adapt when they are making improvements to their home. Whether you want to do your bit for the environment or just looking to save some money each year there are plenty of ways you can do both.

Around 50% of heat lost in the home is through the walls so it does not take a genius where your first call should be. Wall insulation is not that cheap but it does have great benefits and can leave your home feeling warmer which in the UK is something that we all want. The ever changing weather means that there is an equal chance that tomorrow could be a scorching hot day as it will be freezing cold with minus temperatures.

The attic is also a place where a large amount of heat is lost in the home which is why there are plenty of ways to get loft insulation. This is relatively cheap and you can lay it yourself as it is not a big job but can have a big effect. Once your walls and loft are insulated suitably there is just one thing you need to consider, how to stop the drafts and cold winds coming through your windows. This is a problem for those that have single glazed windows as these types of windows do not provide the protection needed.

However with a range of double glazing deals on the market you can find one that suits your needs and you will be able to enjoy the warmth in your home for longer as there will be less need for the heating system to be on for as long as it used to be.

The main benefit of having your home insulated properly is that your home will be run more efficiently and you can also save some money which will certainly be beneficial over the years as the savings mount up. You may only have a small budget but making your home energy efficient doesnt have to cost the world, but the effects of you not doing so could.
