subject: Info On Oil Changing In A Golf Cart [print this page]

Golf carts are a necessity for a professional golfer. The fundamental purpose of a gold cart is to take the golfer from one hole to the other, while on a round of golf.

Proper maintenance on golf carts is as imperative as accurate maintenance on the car you drive daily. Checking the oil level and replacing it is one of the most important things. It helps in keeping your cart at its best performance and saves you a lot of money.

Checking the oil level of your golf cart is quite easy. It has to be checked when the engine is warm. For this, the cart needs to be parked at a level ground. Wait for a few minutes until the oil is drained to the crankcase. Now using a dipstick check the level of oil. Also check the amount of dirt and debris present in it. If the oil level is low or if it is filled with debris, then it is the time to replace the oil.

The oil can be drained through the oil filter which is usually found under the clutch of your cart. If you dont find it, then refer the users manual. Prevent oil leak while draining by using the O-ring in the grove of engine. The drained oil can be colleted and given for recycling at any auto parts store. They can be used as lubricants and for certain other uses also.

Proper maintenance is required for the other parts of the golf cart too. The engine has to be thoroughly checked for any complaints, wear-tear etc. Spark plugs, filters, belts, suspension etc have to be checked. Certain gas powered carts come with a tune-up kit which includes air filter, oil filter and gas filter.

The most commonly used oils are of 2 types. They are 10W-40 or 10W-30 oil. The former one has to be used for better capacity and performance. It is recommended to replace the oil every 200-250 hours of usage.
