subject: Link Building Techniques [print this page]

Link building is the process of acquiring links to and from your website. The more inbound links you obtain, the more chances of your search engine rankings increasing. So how do you acquire links and what links are more beneficial to you?

Gaining links is fairly simple. All you have to do is search for websites that have content related to yours, or that belong to the same industry or niche as your business, and get in touch with their moderators. You can strike a deal with them wherein each of you links to the others website. These links are referred to as reciprocal links. If your content is catchy and interesting, you may be able to get them to link to you without having to link back to them. The links you acquire would be one way inbound links and these are the links you should be aiming for, as they are highly important when it comes to search engine ranking.

Another easy way to build links is by submitting your website URL to directories. Keep your eyes open for the directories that obtain the most traffic and the ones with a high page rank. When you think you have arrived at the top 10, then start submitting your URL to them. Take care to make sure that you submit your URL under the most fitting category, as the more appropriate the categories you choose, the more chance your prospective customers have of finding you.

Whether you are building links the traditional way or by directory submission, you need to check the sources you are requesting links from. Page rank and inbound traffic are the two criteria that you need to evaluate before you try to gain a link form a source.
