Where to do Business in Amsterdam
Where to do Business in Amsterdam

Because Amsterdam has grown so tremendously in terms of tourism, its no wonder that more and more business ventures are coming along. Now, along with tourists are peppered mixes of business travelers which go to the village for a casual meeting or a corporate convention. Most of the accommodations in the area are also well equipped with different function rooms and adjoining business centers in order to cater to the traveler. There are many quaint settings in Amsterdam too that might be just right for a casual drink with a client or a sit-down with the bosses such as the radar saloon, old buildings beside the river and a theater that has since been turned into a convention area. Added to this is the many different restaurants which can cater to a large group of conventioners with different International cuisine to choose from for the weary and homesick business associates. So you see, its still possible to enjoy oneself even when on a business trip in Amsterdam.

A play of Culture and Arts at De Plantage

If youre trying to escape the nostalgic feel of the village, then De Plantage is probably one of the most affordable escapes one can get whilst still hooked to Amsterdam, far more modern than places such as Muiden or Centrum. De Plantage is found at the Eastern part of Amsterdam and is a spacious sprawl ideal for intellectuals, adventurers, kids and adults alike. The Amsterdam Centre for Architecture or ARCAM is located at De Plantage which offers annual exhibits with futuristic architecture as its theme. For the kids and adults on a day trip, try the Artis Zoo, which is a beautiful way to interact with all kinds of animals as they have an aquarium, butterfly garden, petting zoo, a planetarium, geological museum and a research center housed in its property. Since this is Amsterdam, it cant be helped that there are still many historical sites in this contemporary area such as Rembrandts House, Tropenmuseum and the Dutch Resistance Museum. Have lunch at Restaurant de Kas, a greenhouse turned eating area, or at Bloem, a warehouse turned restaurant found near Artis Zoo. Really, whichever way you look at De Plantage there are so many stores, museums, cafes, museums and parks to have fun in.

Exploring the Muiderslot Castle and Museum

Just 15 kilometers off Amsterdam, in the town of Muiden, the Muiderslot Castle (named so because Muiden means rivermouth, affirming the castles location) is set to explore its 132nd anniversary as a museum this coming 2010. The castle houses many ancient arms, armories and paintings back from its original state as a residence and ammunition depot. Having survived a demolition attempt from the government on several occasions in the year 1954 before the local government unit stepped in and declared the castle as an impotant historical site in Amsterdam and the town of Muiden itself, the castle is now set to invite many tourists to take part in its affairs and history. Now, all of its rooms, kitchens and surrounding areas is as it was when the original owner, Count Floris V built it. Tourists wanting to visit the town can either drive going to the castle or take a bus at Amstel Station which can take one to Muidens town center every 15 minutes.

Visiting the Historic City of Alkmaar

Alkmaar is an ideal place to spend a day tour in as its only a few kilometers off of Amsterdam proper. Alkmaar, considered as the cheese capital of Holland, has something to offer everyone aside from cheese but of course they have plenty of that too. More than cheese, they also have many historical museums worth the visit such as the City Museum of Alkmaar, the National Beer Museum, a Beatles Museum since John Lennons first guitar was apparently made here, and of course, the Holland Cheese Museum. The cheese market in Waagplein cant be found on any other day but Friday. The market is open every Friday from April to September, during which different cheeses are weighed for spectators. The buying isnt done in the actual market though but at the different stalls surrounding the market with different specialized cheeses for sale to individuals. The city is one huge mall for shopping as different shops, boutiques, cafes quite unique from the typical Amsterdam gift shops are found here. After which, relax in their many open terraces and restaurants in the area.
