Russian Orthodox influence shines prominently on the architecture of Cathdrale Saint Nicolas, while Chapelle de la Misricorde is a striking example of French baroque religious architecture.

Book European Vacations to See Rome's Beautiful Churches

Your European vacations would be richer and more meaningful with a visit to some of Romes most beautiful churches. The city has five patriarchal basilicas, ceremonially assigned to one of the patriarchs. The first church of the popes is San Giovanni in Laterano, designated to Pope St. John Lateran. Designed in Baroque style, it is the cathedral of Rome. The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, for St. Mary Major, the Patriarch of Antioch, has exquisite 5th century biblical mosaics, marble floors, spectacular ceilings and a bell tower. San Pietro in Vaticano, for St. Peter's Basilica, the Patriarch of Constantinople, is in the Vatican City. The church of the current pope, it is one of the largest and probably the most important Catholic church in the world. The vast interior features a lot of bronze, marble and gold paintings, including Michelangelo's Pieta. Rome's second largest church is where the Apostle Paul is said to be buried -- San Paolo fuori le Mura, appointed to St. Paul Outside the Walls, the Patriarch of Alexandria.

European Vacations to Exciting Prague

Prague is an exciting city perfect for starting off your European vacations. Clubbing is a unique experience in this Eastern European city, with binge drinking and bar-top stripping a common sight. Locally produced Czech beers are regarded as a national treasure. Gambrinus is the most popular, but not necessarily regarded as the best. That distinction is currently held by Kozels Medium -- named Best Czech Beer by the Research Institute of Brewing & Malting Awards. Locals, though, will tell you Pilsner Urquell is the best they attribute it to the water quality in the city, which does make a difference in the brewing. Remember to also set aside a day or two from your clubbing to visit the sites in Prague. The astronomical clock in the town square has been in existence since 1490. Animated figures light up the clock every hour between 8 AM and 8 PM -- four figures representing Vanity, Greed, Death and the Turk as well as wooden images of the twelve Apostles are set in motion. While waiting for the show to start, kill time by trying to figure out the zodiac figures on the clock face!

Admire Beautiful Budapest on European Vacations

Budapest is fast becoming a popular stopover for European vacations. Despite its communist roots, Budapest has become a tourist-friendly destination since 1989. As you walk out your hotel from the Pest side, spot The Citadel on the Buda side of the river and make this towering structure your reference point when seeing the sights of the city. Up there, you will get romantic views of the city. For a piece of history, visit the cannonball-lined fort from the 19th century and the inspiring Liberation Monument on Gellrt Hill which commemorates the Soviet liberation of Hungary from Nazi forces during World War II. Head to the Castle District of Buda and visit the Hungarian National Gallery; admire the Mathias Church where royals used to hold their weddings; and explore the fairy-tale setting of Fisherman's Bastion where many couples exchange "I Dos" and take remarkable wedding photos from the Lookout Terrace. Wind down with a sunset Danube cruise after all that excitement.
