Originally launched as BT Wireless/mmO2 back in 2001, the company would be later acquired by Telefonica Europe and re-branded as O2 (usually written with the 2 in subscript, to emulate the element oxygen). BT Wireless was a subsidiary of British Telecom; under BT, the company also operated the Genie Internet service also under British Telecom. Eventually, mmO2 plc would later rename itself as O2 plc and would have established various countries all over Europe, these included Esat Digifone, Viag Interkom, Telfort, Manx Telecom, O2 Airwave and the previously mentioned Genie Internet. The companies would also be renaming themselves into the most standardized O2 branding scheme (Esat Digifone would be O2 Ireland; Viag Telekom would become O2 Germany and so forth). In 2006, Telefonica (of Spain) would acquire the entirety of the O2 group. Current Offers O2 offers a wide variety of products and services. For its UK clients, there are many great devices being offered for some impressive mobile phones. The LG BL20 Chocolate (5 mega pixel camera with WiFi) is currently available under O2 for the price of 130 Pounds and is considered to be one of the most stylish devices available. The Samsung E2120 and S3100 have O2 exclusive color variants and are priced at 20 Pounds and 50 Pounds respectively under certain deals. The company also has some impressive Sony Ericsson devices, the W595 (walkman phones which come in Silver and Pink) and the C903 (with its integrated Facebook connectivity and high resolution 5 mega pixel camera). The SE phones are priced at 80 Pounds and 130 Pounds. Contacts and Deals O2 offers a variety of contracts, tariffs, and deals for its customers. Users can opt to extend the service for up to 12 months and get an additional 33% more talk minutes and messages to use each month. Prices for pay monthly deals range from 15 Pounds going up and there is a wide variety of free devices that comes with most of the offers (or higher-end mobile phones at slightly lower retail prices). Free Phones under O2 Deals For O2 UK users who opt to go for the 24 month pay monthly deals, there is a wide variety of free mobile devices to choose from.
