When I told people I was going to build my house myself they were shocked and couldn't get their heads around how much work would be involved. Despite not having ever built anything before, learning the basic construction principles you need to know isn't difficult. When you buy your building materials, many of the hardware suppliers will happily offer pointers and tips. You can also research anything you need on the internet. You don't need to be a Master Builder or anything like that. You just need to know a little about wielding a hammer and using a spirit level and measuring tape to keep things straight.
