Why Amsterdams Centrum is Worth the Visit

Centrum encapsulates everything Amsterdam has to offer. For example, one of the four palaces which Queen Beatrix of Neverlands uses alternately is the Royal Palace of Amsterdam found at its Centrum. The palace is again open to visitors since early last year, so one can visit the central hall where loyalty constantly walks. Theres also Bloemenmarkt, considered as the worlds only floating flower market. Aside from the flowers, the market also houses cheap souvenir finds for tourists. Next, check out the Van Gogh Museum where this Dutch Painters largest collection of works is found. Aside from the main museum, Centrum also has many museums hidden in its canals, small museums which are kept by private residences and other small organizations also worth the visit. There is also Anne Franks House down the famous Prisengracht 263 which marks the secret room where she hid with her family. Centrum has so many shops and restaurants to stop by in along the way, so be sure to bring lots of pocket money and a ravenous stomach along the way.

A play of Culture and Arts at De Plantage

De Plantage is a great alternative escape in Amsterdam for those looking for something more modern than places such as Muiden or Centrum. The whole area found at the East part of Amsterdam is spacious and offers different attractions for kids, adults, intellectuals and adventurers. The Amsterdam Centre for Architecture or ARCAM is located at De Plantage which offers annual exhibits with futuristic architecture as its theme. For the kids and adults on a day trip, try the Artis Zoo, which is a beautiful way to interact with all kinds of animals as they have an aquarium, butterfly garden, petting zoo, a planetarium, geological museum and a research center housed in its property. Of course, there are still many historical sites such as Rembrandts House, the Dutch Resistance Museum and Tropenmuseum. Have lunch at Restaurant de Kas, a greenhouse turned eating area, or at Bloem, a warehouse turned restaurant found near Artis Zoo. There are still so many stores, museums, cafes and parks to discover at de Plantage, and its high time to discover each one.

The cheese market in Waagplein has garnered in most of the visitors in Alkmaar, being its most popular attraction. The cheese market is open from April to September, during Fridays, when cheeses are weighed as a form of ceremony to be viewed by spectators. The buying isnt done in the actual market though but at the different stalls surrounding the market with different specialized cheeses for sale to individuals. The city is one huge mall for shopping as different shops, boutiques, cafes quite unique from the typical Amsterdam gift shops are found here. After which, relax in their many open terraces and restaurants in the area.

Whats Happening at Noord, Amsterdam?

Previously, Noord or Northern Amsterdam was merely considered an industrial site but recently, there are many things happening to the area that has made it popular for tourists and locals alike. Where once it was just all ports and docks, now there are many architectural wonders and cultural diversities which are great sightsees via walking, biking or driving through its streets. Of course, Noord or Northern Amsterdam is still considered a quiet area compared to more commercialized areas like Centrum but more exciting things are moving as of late such as in its Tollhouse Garden which has been considered recently as an experimental artists haven, having a theatre and several concert halls, a childrens art hall, a caf and restaurant and even a hip-hop school. Another great find is the Noorderlicht Caf, an all-glass restaurant and dome with a terrace just beside the River IJ which serves a hearty lunch and dinner for its guests. And for those who just want to coast through the River IJ, a unique experience can be utilized using the Pancake Boat, which literally serves all-you-can-eat pancakes for their guests along with different toppings. Seriously, Noord, Amsterdam is becoming an IT place that should not be missed right now.
