Warm Summer Fun on the Beaches of Amsterdam

Whether youre a party girl or a relaxed dinette, there are so many options in Amsterdam to accommodate everyone. Beaches down the North Coast are an easy escape outside of the city quite convenient to go to using public transportation or through a short drive. In North Amsterdam you will find the beaches of Bloemendaal and Zandvoort waiting with great pavilions to hang out in. There are also bars and restaurants found in their 40 or so pavilions. For those who want the complete set of live party music, a DJ and some of the wildest bunch to hang out with, then go to Bloemendaal. On the other hand, there are other beaches in Amsterdam which are less crowded and great for overall relaxation such as Egmond aan Zee, Castricum and Schoorl. The nearest beach from the village is Egmond aan Zee and its also convenient to many of the shops in Amsterdam. The broad choices of beaches will surely delight visiting tourists.

Beautiful Restaurants and Cozy Cafes in Amsterdam

Born out of attractive neighborhoods are several great eating places that boast not only of good food but of good ambiance as well. Most restaurants and cafes in Amsterdam are meant to be conversation places rather than fine dining areas where one can just sit back and relax with the comfort of friends. Theres Bistro Sante at Regio for those who like big portions. Another nice choice is Caf aad de Wolf which is restaurant by day and bar at night, meant for quiet conversations and a much older crowd. At Zaanse Schans, theres a historic old building which serves great food and is considered a great conversation place too, the Restaurant de Hoop op d Swarte Walvis. And for those craving for a more Asian palate, try the Thai restaurant t Waepen van Naang-Nuan which is famous for their fresh catches and tempting desserts. There are still so many hidden treasures when it comes to dining in Amsterdam, and discovering each one is both a pleasure to the taste and the visual sense.

Amsterdam for Artists and Designers

Because Amsterdammers have been given the gift of freedom in all angles, its no surprise that many of them turn into artists at one point of their lives. The Design and Art world in Amsterdam is quite commendable having progressed in leaps and bounds in the last few years, from professional industrial designers to amateur artists. It helps, of course, that one of the most prestigious schools of design is also found here, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where some of the most talented students in all of Europe study courses such as fashion design, graphic design, architecture, textile design, jewelry design and even special departments such as photography and ceramics. Unique stores in the area have also flourished along with the school and Amsterdammers love for art selling all types of functional accessories and furniture. When in Amsterdam, check out the different shops all over the city such as Bebob Design in Prinsengracht, Droog at Staalstraat, Moooi Gallery, Pols Potten, Mobilia Woonstudio and The Frozen Fountain, all of which touch on different aspects of design from interior, lighting, baubles and inspirational pieces as well.

Visiting the Historic City of Alkmaar

Alkmaar is great for a day tour as its only a few miles outside of its more popular counterpart, Amsterdam. Alkmaar has many interesting sights and sounds to offer the tourist especially since its considered as the cheese capital of Holland. Different museums are found in this city of canals such as a Beatles Museum since John Lennons first guitar was made in this city, the National Beer Museum, City Museum of Alkmaar and of course, the Holland Cheese Museum. Among many attractions, the cheese market in Waagplein is by far the most popular of them all. The market is open every Friday from April to September, during which different cheeses are weighed for spectators. But the actual buying takes place in the specialized stores surrounding the area. Aside from the cheese, Alkmaar also has many quaint stores, boutiques, restaurants and cafes that are a refreshing take from the more commercialized spots in Amsterdam proper. And after hanging out in their cafes, spend more time lazing the day away in their many huge terraces for some insightful people-watching.
