There arent too many female rappers in the game today. At one point in the mid and late 90s there were a gang of female MCs and b-girls on the scene, from Da Brat to Salt & Peppa to Lauryn Hill (where are you?) to MC Lyte and Lil Kim. Today there are very few female rappers that are currently making music, most of them working on the sidelines as chorus singers or figuring that they can be more successful as R&B singers. Whatever the reason, hopefully these female MCs listed below can have some commercial success and hopefully open the doors and remind women that they can be successful in the hip-hop scene as well. Here is a list of the top new female mcs who will eat yourmercedes benz parts and spit them out. Jean Grae There was a lot of buzz about this Cape Town, South Africa born female MC in the early part of the decade when she started recording with producer 9th Wonder. The unreleased record with 9th Wonder entitled Jeanius leaked onto the internet and brought her an amount of online fame. She signed with Talib Kwelis Blacksmith Records in what looked like a move to push her into the mainstream but she later grew disenchanted with the music industry and slid out of the spotlight. One of the best new female MCs, hopefully Jean Grae comes back and works in the industry and brings her much needed style and influence to the hip-hop world. Trina Trina made her name in the hip-hop world as one of the more sexually provocative hip hop girls in the scene. It seemed that there was little room for a powerful female MC in hip-hop that wasnt using her sexuality to sell records. Trina called herself da baddest b*tch and proved it with her raunchy rhymes and explicit photoshoots. In 2007 she returned with Still Da Baddest and with a cleaner image. Her first new single Single Again was a hit and an early women empowerment anthem before Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) came out. She is working on a new record for 2010 with some of the biggest names in hip-hop and pop, from Keri HIlson to Lady Gaga to Rick Ross and Diddy.About the Author:
