subject: Electrical Safety Tips [print this page] Some of us may not notice that almost all the things we use in our day to day lives are run by electricity. We use electricity to run our appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, and computers.
We use it to cook, and simply to light our homes. Electricity has always helped made our lives so much better since we are equipped with tools run by electricity that help us accomplish even the simplest task.
But sometimes we tend to forget that our appliances and of course our power sources need to be treated with care, too, as they can pose a danger when they are not properly used. It is important that we follow essential electricity safety tips to always stay safe and out of danger.
* Never forget to turn off appliances or any electrical item when they are not in use. It is important that we never forget to turn off and unplug items when they are not in use especially when you are leaving home. Appliances left plugged can be a fire risk. This will also help us save energy.
* Tidy up your cables and wires. Cables and wires from electrical items should be kept away from the path of heat or water. Make sure that cables and wires are organized to avoid them from bunching up especially when in use, as this can be a fire hazard. It is also not recommended that you twist, bend or pull them. When unplugging your appliance, make sure you unplug from the plug itself.
* Mixing water and electricity is never a good idea. We all know that water is a good conductor of electricity. You should never take electrical items into bathrooms, unless they are meant to be used there like toothbrushes or razors. But these items should still be used with utmost care. Another caution is that you should never use electrical items with wet hands. You could get an electric shock.
* Never overload sockets and adapters. Again, this could be a fire risk so you should plug an item where there is space. Never plug an adapter into another adapter.
* Always get help when you have a problem with electricity. Never ever do it yourself if you do not have the basic knowledge of electricity. Hire a licensed electrician to fix problems with your electrical items.
Safety should always be one's top priority. It always pays to be in the know. Be cautious and careful especially when handling electricity.
