subject: Keeping The Streets Safe And Free From Stress With Defensive Driving [print this page]

You can save lives and enhance your driving experience by using defensive driving techniques when you are on the road. Getting upset and speeding through traffic won't get you there any faster. In fact it may not get you there at all.

People who have a problem with road rage are not practicing this very much needed skill. In fact more and more drivers out on the road are not practicing safe skills while driving on the road. You can be a good driver, get where you need to be, and still drive defensively. It is a great motto to share the road.

"Driving to save lives, time, and money, in spite of the conditions around you and the actions of others" is the definition of defensive driving from the standard for Safe Practices of Motor Vehicles. It is the basic premise of keeping people safe on the road and free from harm by being a defensive driver and incorporating it into the way you are on the road.

If you see a person driving reckless protect yourself. Don't challenge them. It can be frustrating but know that soon or later they will be pulled over. Hopefully this will happen before they hurt themselves or someone else. You can always call in a reckless driver on the road as well.

For the new driver a defensive driving course is included in the training a person will receive. They will learn to be precautionary with others on the road and anticipate others actions to avoid accidents. A good driving school will not only talk about defensive driving with their students but they will reinforce it what the students is actually behind the wheel.

If a person has had an incident that involves a traffic accident of reckless driving then a judge may require a driver to take a defensive driving course before they are able to drive again. Or the judge may give them a certain amount of time to complete the course and bring proof back to the court or their license will be taken away.

If you are teaching your teenager to drive, or anyone for that matter, you want to ensure that you are teaching them how to be a defensive driver and why. You can also exhibit this to younger children while they are in your care to explain to them why being a good driver who is defensive is a good thing. This way by the time they become drivers it has been ingrained in them that being aware of the road is a good thing.

To make the road safe for everyone on it you must do your part in practicing defensive driving. You can be sure that you are important in this battle to have the roads of America safer. By teaching our children the importance of it perhaps there will be less crazy drivers out there endangering everyone's lives.
