Carnivale was a short lived television show on HBO in 2005 and 2006. It was a complex and engaging show about a traveling circus and a shadowy preacher who are inching towards each other in an apocalyptic showdown. It was sadly canceled before it could fully tell its story but here is a short rundown of the characters of Carnivale, from thepoker chip playing gambles to the fortune tellers to the dwarfs and mind readers. Ben Hawkins Played by Nick Stahl who you may know from Bully, Sin City and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Ben Hawkins is a young teenage farmer from Oklahoma who is first seen taking care of his dying mother. When she dyes, he is picked up by a traveling carnival and displays extraordinary healing powers and strange visions. He slowly begins to learn that his history is much darker and complex than he may think, leading to new revelations about his father and a mysterious preacher who appears in his dreams. He learns that it is his destiny to come face to face with this preacher in a final battle of Creature of Light vs Creature of Dark. Brother Justin Crowe When Brother Justin is first shown in the series, he is a seemingly benevolent Methodist minister who resides in smalltown Mintern, California. He builds a church which mysteriously burns down, putting him into a deep depression and almost suicide. He finds out he has powers of influence and supernatural abilities and leads a group of migrants and Okie through a nightly radio sermon. He soon learns that he is the Usher of the apocalypse and to fully realize his power he must confront and kill a man named Henry Scudder, the father of Ben Hawkins. Brother Justin is portrayed not as black and white antagonist, but a more complex evil, fighting against his darker impulses.About the Author:
