subject: How To Preserve And Clean Your Floor With A Floor Buffer [print this page]

Floor buffing is the act of polishing the floor to enhance its shine and its attractiveness. A clean and shiny floor will always reflect that the owner is a clean and healthy minded person, not to mention integrity and pride.

You will need a special floor buffing machine to do the job. A floor buffer kind of looks like a vacuum but has a large circular pad on the bottom which rotates over the floors surface. The circular pad on the bottom pushes away dirt and grime and can also blend in wax. Buffing and waxing a floor will ensure that the tiles last a long time to come.

Floor buffers have rotary pads or brushes that rotate in speeds determined by the type of floor that is being buffed. The handle of the buffer has controls that can adjust the speed and direction of rotation of the brush. There are different kinds of floor buffers which have sizes determined by their use. Industrial buffers are usually bigger since they are used to in floor buffing of wide areas like that of malls and hotels.

As I mentioned, the floor buffer can remove stuff from the floor as well such as gum, wax, dirt, and any other debris that can't be removed with a mop or broom. For home use you probably wouldn't need to floor stripping features. The regular floor buffer should be just fine for home when used at lower speeds.

But before you start buffing you really should clean the floor first. Really hard to remove stuff can actually cause problems when using the buffing pad. Once you are ready you can spread your cleaning agents all over and begin buffing, or stripping, the floor. When you are finished you should dry the floor with a cloth or a dry buffing pad.

Once cleaned, you can start the final buffing act. This will require wax or a buffing solution depending on your flooring. Usually the solution is 1 part wax to two parts water. And that is all there is to buffing a floor with wax.
