subject: What You Should Expect With A Pharmacy Technician Salary [print this page]

One of my favorite toys to play with when I was growing up was my collection of Matchbox cars, which I always count first before playing with them. After playing with my little cars, I would segregate them by car type, colors, and then count them again, to ensure they're all there. Fast forward to the present, I'm still counting, not little cars, but some other things. That's because I am now a pharmacy technician and part of my job description is to count pills. Those Matchbox cars are unfortunately, gone now, but since I'm already earning, I can start building a new collection with my pharmacy technician salary.

Even in a bad economy, there is an increasing need for applicants for pharmacy technician jobs opening. I did my research about the duties and responsibilities, but above all else, I wanted to know how much the pharmacy technician salary is. The salary for an entry-level position wasn't what I expected, because it isn't much but I still signed up for a formal training program to get myself started. After completing the training program, I was fortunately hired immediately. After a few months on the job, I found out about the joy this job brings in being able to help others, and suddenly, the pharmacy technician salary isn't that important to me.

You will have job security if you're a pharmacy technician, with a stable pharmacy technician salary as well. Pharmacy technicians have excellent career advancement because of many opportunities that will be presented to them to prove themselves. Your hard work will be easily rewarded with a promotion or increase in salary if the pharmacist or owner of the company thinks you deserve it. This year, I'm working hard to be given the chance to be promoted. I'm also working hard because that is what our patients expect, high-quality standard of service and a professional approach in helping them.

What is important, I must stress here, is the ability to help those in need, especially the elderly and the sick. If I stayed as a stockbroker, I wouldn't know about the joy of helping others, like what I'm feeling now everyday in my work. I am not saying that stockbrokers are heartless, they're not, it's just that I didn't felt this feeling of satisfaction when I was still in my previous job. What I meant was that working closely with your patients brings a different joy and satisfaction. Because of these satisfying and rewarding feeling, the amount of pharmacy technician salary isn't that important anymore, as I said earlier. Our patients' health are in our hands and that is what's important.

Later this year, I'll be undergoing additional training and I will also take my certification exam. It's a proven fact that certified pharmacy technicians receive higher pharmacy technician salary, but I have a different reason why I want to be certified. By being certified, I'm giving our clients the peace of mind in the thought that I can perform my duties well, as proof of my certification. As I gain more experience in being a pharmacy technician, I feel I'm growing as a person as well, learning about myself that I didn't know about. I almost felt it was the end of the world when I lost my previous job but now I know that there are more satisfying opportunities out there.
