Acid reflux symptoms usually occur when your esophagus and the acid in your stomach are adversely effected by something you've swallowed or something else you've done. We will now examine the most common acid reflux causes so you can make an effort to avoid them.

Are you one of the many people who like to snack right before bedtime? There is a reason you've been taught not to do that. If you consider it, you can probably recall being advised that late night snacks are unhealthy. In all likelihood, you first heard this when you were a young child. They were all telling you the truth! Acid reflux attacks can in fact be caused by, or made worse by, eating too close to bedtime.

This is because when you are lying down your body has a harder time keeping your stomach acid in your stomach. So you want to leave some time between your snack and bedtime. You have to pay attention to how your body works.

Have you made exercise a priority? While doing certain exercises too strenuously can trigger an attack, not exercising is another acid reflux trigger. Your body cannot function fully without regular exercise. Acid reflux attack when a sluggish stomach can't properly process the acid it produces. Make an effort to exercise a little bit every day. The exercise does not need to be high impact-a brisk walk is often enough.

Caffeine is one of the major acid reflux causes. Caffeine can be great for a number of things but it does tend to cause issues within your body. A bout of heartburn is often a sign that you need to cut back on your caffeine consumption (or cut it out altogether). Although caffeine withdrawal is harsh, it is worth it to reduce your chances of an acid reflux attack. Switch to decaf and let your body heal.

Acid reflux causes, for the most part, can easily be avoided. Keep in mind, though, while most causes of acid reflux are influenced by lifestyle choices, there are some medical reasons, too. To prevent these attacks, your best option is to look at your lifestyle choices and see where you can make changes. You can work with your primary care physician to figure these things out. Consult with them regarding other ways you can avoid future attacks.

Acid reflux does not have to keep you from living a completely normal life.
