subject: How To Care For Any Type Of Skin [print this page]

Unruly skin can be a stressful and frustrating endeavor that no-one really wants to endure. Despite our best efforts to keep things on an even keel we still get blemishes like acne and sun spots, and it's not like we're getting any younger so, wrinkles are going to start to develop. There are specific skin types that are more prone to specific ailments that can be aided with the right skin care. There's oily skin, dry skin, and combination skin. Each skin type can give you its own set of problems or positives. Knowing what type of skin you have is the first step in determining your skin care regimen.

The last thing you ever want to use if you have dry skin is soap. Soap can cause flaking, redness, and dryness, basically just making the problem worse. Dry skin on the hands and feet can crack and peel causing pain and discomfort as well as getting more easily chapped in dry air. First off, drink water, about 8-10 glasses a day to keep your whole body properly hydrated Using an all natural moisturizer every day all over especially around the face and neck to hydrate your skin. Women with dry skin should use make up with a moisturizing foundation and an all natural cleanser to remove. One good thing about dry skin is that it's less likely to develop acne.

Rub your fingers across your forehead. Does it feel greasy? Are your fingers shining slightly? If this is so, then you probably have oily skin. Oily skin has a lot of extra sebum which prevents dry skin. The extra sebum also attracts more dirt and dust. Oily skin is also more commonly associated with acne. There are some basic skin care tips for oily skin. Again stay away from soaps as they can dry out even greasy skin. Wash your face every morning and night with a mild all natural cleanser to wash away the dirt, dust, and excess oils. Young adults and teens with very oily skin will rarely have to moisturize as they already have too much moisture.

Most people have a little bit of excess oil and a little bit of dryness. This is called combination skin. Combination skin seems to be the most frustrating of the three because it requires treating the aspects of both dry and oily skin. Usually the forehead and nose is the oily zone with the cheeks and the neck being dry and irritated. This can get expensive when having to buy skin care products to treat two separate things on the same part of your body. As it cannot be repeated enough, don't use a bar of soap on your face. A mild face cleanser or a cleanser designed for combination skin is your best bet. Use a moisturizer on the drier areas of your face if needed and stay away from alcohol based lotions and cleansers.

With all the different type of skin out there, it's hard to match a specific skin care treatment that is guaranteed to work for you. The best thing you can do is know what the problem is and treat it accordingly. If you have dry skin, moisturize regularly and if you have oily skin make sure to cleanse your face in the AM and PM with a mild all natural cleanser. Those with combination skin can use a product that is specifically designed for both dryness and oily skin.
