subject: Keeping Motivated To Lose Weight And Remain Healthy [print this page]

Many people around the world deal with weight issues. They have tried the fad diets, and have led their bodies down a road of sickness and unhealthy behaviour. Part of the problem is that most of these diets are unhealthy to begin with, and determination alone is not the motivation one needs to be successful. Our body needs fuel, and just as gasoline can have different levels of quality, so does the food we eat. It is important to acknowledge this and become motivated to eat healthier. This may take willpower and planning by the individual, but changing your diet has been a proven way of reducing weight.

Changing one's diet is as simple as substituting one thing for another. If you are truly motivated, these substitutions may seem extreme at first, but after a while they become routine. Fruit instead of that candy bar, or salad instead of those fries; if we make a conscious effort to change what we put into our bodies, a physical change is guaranteed to occur.

Another lifestyle change would be creating an exercise schedule and sticking to it. If your motivation is to live a longer and healthier life, than a few simple added exercises can help you attain this. Next time you need to get somewhere and it is not too far, why not walk? Or even schedule an early morning, afternoon, or evening walk around your neighbourhood. It is one of the simplest exercises that we constantly overlook. That being said, it is also up to you to maintain a walking lifestyle, but if it is a healthier and longer life that motivates you - this will be easy!

If you become frustrated because you have changed your lifestyle but it does not seem to be working, don't lose hope! Analyse what you have changed and look at what you may have to do differently. Maybe you sneak in some fries once in a while, or you forget to do your walk and put it off. This would mean a change in attitude is needed and you may just have to discipline those personal trends.

Stay positive. Negativity can destroy you from the inside out. Look at all the great things you have accomplished thus far, and find the willpower to dig deeper. This all has to do with your own personal attitude. A negative attitude will destroy any motivation you may have and lead to excuses as to why you are not following your plan. Be positive, stay positive!

Another commonly overlooked but simple way to stay healthy is the use of water. Substitute water for things like pop, milk, and other calorie filled beverages. Your body will thank you!
