subject: WHAT INCREASES VERTICAL LEAP THE MOST? [print this page]

Jumping skills are valuable in competitive sports, some more than others. But the fact is that leapers have an edge in most every team sport and a number of individual sports as well. Training exercises for jump development cover a very wide spectrum of options. Virtually every one of them will be helpful to some degree but the inevitable question of what option most increases jump reach is an ever present reality. Some claim it is weight lifting. Others insist the best focus is repetitive jumping. Then there are the jump shoes advocates. And the jump rope aficionados. Not to mention the plyometrics crowd. This list could go on for a while. At the end of the day, guess what the most accurate answer to that question is in real world terms. All of claims are right and all of them are wrong. Everything mentioned and more does in fact help grow vertical jump. However, none of them are the single best choice above all of the rest. Some are in fact more impactful but none represent the ever elusive 'secret'. All of those claims to the contrary, only (emphasis on only) a comprehensive system can really grow vertical jump by big numbers. Following a single path will yield minimal results. Following well researched and coordinated paths will get to double digit jump reach improvement measurements. There are nine different improvable aspects by which you may increase your vertical explosion and quickness. Would you rather target one or two--or all nine? This may seem like a silly question, but unfortunately most jump development programs only target one or two. Targeting each facet allows for the quickest possible results. The cumulative impact of effectively training each aspect produces results fast. An understanding of correct training methods and why 90% of people are doing the right exercises the wrong way, will sky rocket your results. A correct understanding of what plyometrics really are, why most people are doing them incorrectly, and how to use them to get a training advantage is part of a comprehensive approach to explosive improvement. Further, if you are truly serious about succeeding you need a coach. You need someone who can ensure that you completely understand what is going to be effective. Even the smallest unanswered question about your training can dampen your confidence and hinder your dedication and motivation. You cannot leave your success to chance. Proper guidance is a must if an athlete is to achieve performance changing results. As noted here, there are a significant number of elements involved in the process of increasing vertical leap to a meaningful if not eye popping degree. Yes, there are nine distinct improvable aspects that need to be addressed, included in training and improved upon. Which brings us back to our opening question about what element most increases hops. The fact is, it is the wrong question to ask. Only someone looking for shortcuts to greatness would even contemplate such an idea. It is, in essence, the fools gold of vertical jump training. There is no one factor that can really get the job done. Taking performance to the next level requires that attention be paid to all the requisite elements involved, across the board. Athletes can pass on developing jumping skills and choose other areas in which to concentrate. But for those who desire to grow their hops in order to compete on higher levels of play, only a comprehensive program will get them to that goal. There are no shortcuts, there is only a combination of hard work, proper training and a full understanding of what works versus what is a waste of time or even counterproductive. If you want to be among the best, do the right thing and do it correctly. BEST COMPREHENSIVE JUMP DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMAbout the Author:
