subject: Why it's Fun to Drive a Honda [print this page]

Honda carare one of the bestselling vehicles in Canada. Why you ask? Well, economy plays are large role. Honda cars are affordable, both in the short-term and in the long. The other important factor is that they are generally a blast to drive. As an example, I'll consider the newest Honda Civic, which I recently had the pleasure of test-driving.

This car is small, good-looking, and great on gas, but it has some pep. The first thing you'll notice sitting down into is that it feels much more spacious than it looks from the outside. It's like one of those carnival illusions. The driver's panel is compact, but Honda laid it out extremely well. The speedometer sits on top of the dash, the tachometer below, and the overall arrangement is quite dramatic. I felt like I was sitting in a rally car.

You start the car, and it gives you a healthy, somewhat surprising tone. Then, you step on the gas. This is where the fun starts. It's a 5-speed manual transmission, very fluid. I'm in the Si, which boasts a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder that supposedly peaks at 140 horsepower. It felt like more, a lot more. But what really impresses you is the intuitiveness of the steering and the way the Civic glides into corners and sticks to road.

The Honda Civic has spent decades earning a reputation for steering and handling, and it doesn't seem like they have any plans of relinquishing the crown. Why is it fun to drive a Honda? This is a car that responds and performs when you need it to at a price that those of us with families can actually afford. Don't take my word for it. Test-drive it yourself.
