subject: We Welcome The Amazing Iphone 4 To The Smartphone Party [print this page]

After what seems like an eternal wait, the iPhone 4 has finally arrived. And having taken a closer look at the popular handset, it certainly seems that the months of waiting may have been worthwhile.

2010's earlier release of the impressive iPad was a hugely publicised launch, and Apple have taken note of this and used some of the same technology in this new iPhone. The most obvious of these similarities is the great A4 processor chip. Not only does this offer the user a much more pleasant user experience thanks to almost instant loading and great handling of the new multi tasking feature, but also a much more efficient power management system. This system alongside the new larger capacity battery means users can take advantage of up to 40% improvements in usage time as compared to the iPhone 3GS. With regards to the UI, this thankfully has not changed to much. The very functional and neat looking homescreen system is still used, allowing easy navigation by swiping your finger across the screen. The apps you place on this screen can all be downloaded via the app store, which you can access via the pre installed icon on the phone. ITunes is also available, giving you access to music, podcasts and books.

Perhaps the most technically impressive feature on the iPhone 4 is the great new display. Thanks to its ability to exceed what the human eye can see, Apple have affectionately named the screen the "Retina" display. This is achieved thanks to the phone packing in a massive 326 pixels into a square inch. This coupled with the ground breaking 960 x 640 resolution means the iPhone 4 is not only the best specification on paper, but certainly lives up to its billing when it comes to looking at images and text, which appear almost print like and crystal clear. Add to the equation the 25% improvement in terms of contrast ratio, which adds even more vivid colours to the clear pictures and you really do have a top drawer display. The glass is also chemically treated, giving you a more durable and scratch resistant surface.

As a total package, the iPhone 4 is certainly a winner. It ticks all of the right boxs, from looks through to functionality, from features to durability. Only time will tell if this will outsell the iPhone 3GS, but on paper it certainly looks like it should.
