I'm not saying that all you have to do is just improve yourself and things will get better automatically. I'm saying use your head, create a plan and then work your plan.
Get Clear
Get a clear picture of what you want your life to look like. Then improve yourself to line up with that picture.
Think in terms of upgrading within before expecting things outside of you to change.
If you don't change then you will continue to get more of the same things that you have today.
You will keep being overlooked for job promotions. You will continue to get into arguments with your significant other. And your career will continue to flat-line.
It has been my experience in life that whenever I purposely improve my skills, be it through college courses, seminars, books, audio programs, etc., I always eventually get presented with an opportunity to leave my current situation for a better one.
Work On Improving You
Develop a plan for improving your life. Then take the steps necessary for positively changing yourself. Next you will see that a promising offer presents itself and presto! You are no longer stuck.
You'll find yourself taking a step up. It is hard to remain trapped in a "dead end" job or relationship when you are in the room of self improvement. The very act of continuous improvement brings with it opportunities for advancement.
You should engage in activities that make you a better person. Consistently grow as a person and you will soon notice that you don't feel trapped in a stale situation anymore.
