subject: Avoiding Cruiser Bike Accidents [print this page]

Cruiser bikes are those which imitate the designs of earlier motorcycles which puts emphasis on comfort rather than the speed. They are bulkier and heavier compared to sleek designs or common motorcycles.

But still, cruiser bike riders are no safer than regular motorcycle riders because of the little or no safety equipment provided in these vehicles. So, riders can only rely on their alertness and cautiousness to make sure that they would not get into any road accident that can possibly cause catastrophic injuries.

Accident-Free Riding

Unlike other vehicles, motorcycles are less stable and so the smallest road obstruction can cause a lot of trouble. In order to avoid these accidents, the rider must keep these things in mind:

Avoid speeding. Speeding increases the risk of being involved in a crash because with the motorcycle on a high speed, the rider can easily lose control and be injured.

Regular maintenance of cruiser. Any vehicle should be well-maintained so make sure that the brake and tires are in good shape and will function appropriately. The connections of cables and wirings should also be checked regularly to ensure a safe trip each time the motorcycle is used.

Get enough rest. Drowsiness and fatigue will deter the drivers alertness and ability to execute good judgment. It would be wise to rest well before driving or pulling over when you feel tired on long drives.

Avoid aggressive drivers. Motorcycles are no match to bigger and sturdier vehicles, so, if ever a rider encounters an aggressive driver, he should just give way and let it pass to avoid any form of confrontation and violence.

Never drink and drive. Drunk driving will automatically put the riders life at risk because it will hinder him from maintaining balance and exercising good judgment while on the road.

Stay alert. Alertness will give you the ability to make quick decisions if ever you encounter glitches or road obstructions. It will also enable you to abide by every traffic rules enforced in that area and notice slippery roads and holes that can cause an accident.

The abovementioned tips will help prevent an accident but it would not fully guarantee that a driver will be safe from any road. Defective roads and faulty traffic lights are among those which can harm a rider.

Possible Injuries

In cruiser bike accidents, it is almost expected that the driver will be injured or die because of the impact and absence of protective gears that could save him. Here are the common injuries sustained by riders in bike accidents:

Spinal cord injury. This usually happens when the rider is thrown of his motorcycle onto a pavement or any hard surface. The impact can damage his spinal cord and cause permanent or temporary paralysis.

Head injuries. Not all helmets can protect the riders head in impacts, so, it is important to buy one that will not compromise the riders safety. Head injuries should be treated immediately to prevent further damage as it can cause catastrophic brain injuries.

Broken bones. Because of the impact in the collision, the riders bones are likely to break especially his limbs. For badly broken bones or those that are crushed, doctors might have no choice but to amputate it.

These catastrophic injuries will endanger the persons life and his ability to earn income. Victims must immediately contact personal injury lawyers with expertise in handling motorcycle accidents.
