High in the branches of some magnificent trees in a remote corner of Lake Manyara National Park the lodge blends romance and naturally honed sophistication. The lodge sits nestled in the forest between the lakeshore and the steep escarpment of Africa's Rift Valley.
Lake Manyara Tree Lodge offers just ten tree-house style rooms set on raised wooden platforms with palm-thatched roof, each surrounding a huge tree that forms part of its structure. The wonderfully airy rooms consist of both lounge and bedroom areas, private bathroom and large private veranda running along two sides, which makes an ideal viewing point.
The rooms are elegantly styled with contemporary furnishings in neutral colours and textures, with grand four-poster like beds with soft draping linens and understated yet interesting accessories. Each of Lake Manyara Tree lodge's room has a large twin hand basin en suite bathroom and in addition to a large bath there is an exhilarating outdoor shower. The comfortable bedrooms have overhead fans and mosquito nets and fabulous views into the lovely lush forest surroundings. Opening onto the veranda are three sets of double doors, all with insect-proof screens, so you get the forest breeze through the room in the evening.
After an exciting day out game viewing guests like to refresh before dinner in the shaded lodge pool. Dinner is usually served on a split level dinning area that sits between the trees and soft sofas are found in more cosy corners for a welcome nightcap.
As the chefs cook dinner aromas drift from the open, interactive kitchen, and guests are encouraged to watch their delicious meals being prepared.
The lodge is crafted from local timber and makuti (palm fronds), and it is located discreetly in an ancient mahogany forest in close proximity to the exquisite soda lake. In the evenings guests can gather in the open air boma for exquisite dining and wonderful nightcaps under the stunning night sky.
Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is known for its tree-climbing lions that lazy in the shading branches of the trees during the mid day heat. After ten years of intense poaching, elephant numbers have recovered and large numbers are often encountered. The Park was even the site of Iain Douglas-Hamilton's pioneering work on elephant societies.
