subject: How Computer Support Can Be Obtained [print this page]

Computer support can be obtained in many different ways and for many different reasons.

When someone buys a computer for the first time, it can seem very complicated and setting it up can become a laborious process to say the least. Computer support can apply to various parts of a computer. The first would be the hardware. This refers to the physical components of the computer itself. For example, the monitor, the keyboard, the motherboard and the hard disk etc. The second part that computer support applies to is the software. All of the programmes on a computer, like Microsoft office programmes, photo editing programmes and games that need to be installed are forms of software. With the modern day popularity of the internet, computer support can be purely for online problems, and relating to this is support to prevent viruses and other infections that find their way to your computer through the internet, file sharing or email.

Computer support can be given and found through quite a few means. The internet is a huge resource for technical support or tutorials relating to almost any issue that could arise. Search engine searches will usually return thousands of results relating to problems that any computer user could be facing. Many companies also offer their services through email or online search forms that can be filled in very easily by a customer.

Another way that computer support is given is by telephone. Most companies have set up call centres or support lines purely to deal with customers that require support from technical experts. The number for these centres or help lines is usually provided in the instruction manual for any computer or software that is purchased. Both of these methods of computer support require the user to be somewhat competent with technology as they need to follow the expert's instructions in order to fix their problem.

Possibly the most effective form of computer support, especially for those that are not computer literate, is a home visit. This is sometimes necessary when computer hardware has a problem as parts may need to be taken to pieces or sent off for repair. A lot of companies offer the service for a technician to be sent to a customer's home or place of business to help them with their computer problems and resolve any issues they may be having. This usually costs more, but the results may prove more successful than when help is given over the telephone or from online searches as the technician can pinpoint the exact issue the computer is having and treat it accordingly.

For this reason, most companies have computer support departments for their offices in order to keep the staff and the technology running smoothly. As our work life (and indeed our home life) depends so wholly on technology, having all the computers in an office go down could potentially lose millions of pounds for a company, which is why they are keen invest in computer support teams.

However and whenever you need technical support for your computer, it is easily accessible through the internet or by phone, and many companies provide 24 hour service for their products and customers, so it couldn't be easier to resolve your computer problems and start enjoying the user experience that was intended by manufacturers.
