subject: Teach Yourself The Technique Of Speaking Fluent Japanese [print this page]

The way we speak is based on pronunciation amongst other things. As hard as you try to construct a well thought out sentence in Japanese or another language you normally can't put yourself across as you hoped. Avoiding this is the key. Sounds are what languages are built on. Living in a country and talking their language means that sounds are spoken in a particular way. Different sounds are spoken in different languages. Without understanding a sound in a different language we will have little hope of deciphering what has been spoken.

The Blocks of Pronunciation - Look at two main things when studying pronunciation. Firstly, we must produce that sound and then understand how the sound is heard Over the years saying a sound and understanding how it sounds can decrease. When learning languages such as Japanese we need a bit more help as it's not easy. Below are some guidelines to help us learn the language Am I saying it right? Attempt to say the letters. Pay close attention to how your mouth is working. It's harder to speak any word that you don't know how it sounds physically.

Learn which sounds are the same There are some sounds between Japanese and English that are the same. If you look at a decent dictionary for a new language it will normally give you an English sound or word as well. This is useful for seeing if sounds are the same. Some sounds are difficult to say

Work out which words you find hard to say. Concentrate on these words more than any others. See how your mouth is working by physically making the sound. Try not to make assumptions that just because something is written with the English alphabet that it should be spoken that way.

Out loud reading is useful Research this using your course book. There are two main things that will be to your advantage here. The first thing is that you get to speak letters and words. Sounds that you hear and speak will become easier.

How easy will it be? Discussions are plentiful on this. Some of us just get by in a language and that's enough. If someone else can understand what we are trying to say then that's good enough. After that we have a decision to make. There are some that get very proficient at other languages and achieve high levels. There are not too many of us that are that good, but we can still try and get by with some simple words and phrases.
