There are many problems which can affect your eyes and puffy eyes are one among them. Mostly, retention of fluid causes this problem which is temporary. The other major causes are lack of sleep, accumulation of wastes and toxins in the body, consuming much sodium or salt, heredity or genetic factors, physical or emotional stress, allergic reactions or symptom of dermatitis, increased consumption of alcoholic drinks, sinus problems, irritation from contact lenses etc.

The skin around and under the eyes is very thin and extra sensitive to changes in the body. Normally puffiness is noticeable when you wake up in the morning, though it can be experienced at any time of the day. Mostly, puffy eyes can be cured non-surgically. If the contact lenses are special designed for night time use, it should be removed before sleeping. It would be really good to avoid consumption of alcohol and sodium to the possible extent. Non-toxic, fragrance-free moisturizers can relieve symptoms of puffiness. The common symptoms are swelling around or at the corner of the eyes, swelling of the eyelids, puffiness of the eyelids, dry or itchy eyes etc.

Several quick fixes like keeping cold cucumber over the affected eyes, applying refrigerated tea bags, keeping metal spoons that are put in the refrigerator for some on affected areas etc have found to be very beneficial in reducing the puffiness. These tricks help to drain the excess fluid from around the eyes and keep the area cool and comfortable. In addition, rinsing the face with clean, cold water can also reduce the problem of puffy eyes greatly.
