subject: Immune System Back-up [print this page] Getting an individual's immune system to function at optimal levels can change their health overall, says Dr. Anju Mathur. She runs the Angel Longevity Medical Center in Los Angeles, and talks here about how immune enhancement therapy can give people the boost they have been searching for.
Several weaknesses of the body can affect the immune system. Medical testing is the key to determining which way to proceed in treating a weakened immune system. One test checks for inflammatory cytokines, which show up in the bloodstream when a person has infection and/or inflammation. A second test is for insulin resistance. A third test checks for adrenal hormones, their existence and balance with other hormones of the body.
Good Nutrition
Sometimes a nutritional approach is needed in bolstering the immune system. This can vary depending on the seriousness of the condition. Changes in diet, and added vitamins and supplements, even IV drips of badly needed vitamins such as vitamin C can be done. Sometimes the patient requires a hormonal approach.
Babies are born with a very tiny gland called thymus. As a child gets older this gland rapidly disappears. But apparently the products of this gland regulate immunity for the rest of the person's life. Introducing thymus proteins to the body with a weakened immune system often greatly improves immunity.
Evaluating the Individual
A full evaluation needs to be done to find out what is happening with an individual's immune system before we can do anything. But once we find out what is wrong, we have very good results. We have treated lots of people very successfully with these therapies.
Dr. Mather recounted a particular individual who had to take antibiotics every month because he had recurring infections. After immune enhancement therapy, he no longer needed antibiotics because he was no longer getting ill.
Some patients are unaware that they have an infection but they are aware that they do not feel good. These are called "sub-clinical chronic low grade infections." They often go untreated, but they weaken the immune system from having it turned on all the time. After immune enhancement therapy, these low-grade infections disappear. Dr. Mather and her staff are very pleased with these results.
A very key concept in treating the immune system weaknesses is determining what is making it weak. Once testing is done, the route to handling the situation can easily be seen.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is indicated when it turns out that hormones are the cause of the weakness of the immune system. The adrenal glands have a lot to do with the immune system, and if they are exhausted, a person can contract chronic illnesses.
If tests determine that vitamin and mineral deficiencies are the cause of immune system weakness, these substances can be supplied to the body. The tests would also indicate the amounts needed. Chronic inflammation and illness can be handled with one of these three therapy or all three.
Overall, the goal at Angel Longevity Medical Center is to bring the patient back to optimal health. Medical testing and the recommended natural therapies can achieve that, and a longer, happier life.
