subject: Some Licenses Allow You To Actually Boradcast On Tv Frequencies [print this page]

Since radio began the business of distant, wireless communication has fascinated many and it wasn't long before groups of amateur radio broadcasters were formed. Amateur radio differs from CB radio as a amateur radio can have up to 1000 watts of power. In addition to a greater selection of frequencies you can also get access to radio teletype and even some TV frequencies.. With the addition of satellite advancements no portion of the world is beyond your reach. The problem of course is that ham radio is licensed and there are examinations you need to pass before you can get the license.

There are several different types of amateur radio license available.

The Novice level license allows access to some HF bands and SSB broadcasting between 28.3 and 28.5 MHz and between 28.1 and 28.3 for radio tele-type. To access these channels all you need is a 10 Meter Radio Although these radios are often referred to as a 10 Meter CB Radio they are actually quite different as a CB radio does not require you to have a license and a 10 Meter Radio does. SSB and FM voice and two-way transmissions via TV frequencies are allowed between 222.01 and 223.91 MHz and 1270 to 1295 MHz.To recveive the Novice Class you need to be able to interpret Morse code at a rate of five words per minute and pass a theory test..

Achieveing a Technicians license opens up the VHF and UHF bands.~The Technicians license means that you can now transmit on the UHF and VHF frequencies. Getting a Technicians License is not that hard, you need to complete a radio theory examination and FCC regulations test..

Next after the Technicians Class is the General Class. The General Class allows transmitting on HF and UHF across the spectrum and even a couple television frequencies. In order to obtain this license you must take a test on FCC requirements, general radio theory and demonstrate that you can operate Morse Code at a speed of 13 words per minute.

Once you have completed the more difficult theory test the Advanced License gives access to even more channels.

The pinnacle amateur radio license is the Extra license class. Extra class license holders are access to the complete spectrum of HF VHF and UHF frequencies associated with amatuer radio. This license is not easy to get you must take a test on complex radio theory and operate Morse code quickly.

An organization called The American Radio Relay League helps provide all the information you may require to complete your license exam..

However if you have other things to do with your life and don't enjoy examinations, there is an alternative in CB radio. There are no examinations to pass and there is no license to obtain. The verbage used is relaxed and there's no requirement to learn Morse Code. You can start immediately all you require is the right equipment. Come and join us?
