subject: Top Five Team Building Events [print this page] Many studies show that getting colleagues together in a team building or reward day will motivate staff, improve relations in a team and create a happier work force, but even though we know the benefits, the task of choosing what to actual do, can put us off. So here is a list of ideas to get you thinking of things your team could do.
First up is that old classic, orienteering. Taking your team out in the middle of nowhere and leaving them there may sound a little harsh, but orienteering means they have to get along and work together, and if you split the staff into teams it also appeals to people's competitive edge. You really get to see the 'real' versions of people and if you reward everyone with a bbq or pub dinner once they make their way back to base, then they'll love you too!
When a team is lacking in laughs and fun, then an 'It's a knock out' contest will definitely get them all laughing- at themselves and each other! You could opt for a couple of events or go for a full day competition including water, gladiator challenges, silly costumes and blow up equipment, but whatever you choose, your team is sure to be entertained and challenged.
If your colleagues aren't really the athletic types, then perhaps a cocktail making session would be more suited. Bars all over the country offer these master classes, and during them your team can play at being Tom Cruise in Cocktail, learning how to make a range of classic cocktails. An informal gathering like this is often a breath of fresh air for a team, with participants able to take part as much or as like, whilst learning a new skill too!
Another way to make your corporate reward day a little more classy is to have a day at the races. Get your fancy summer dresses and suits on and head to Chester, York or Aintree for a day of racing, bubbly and socialising. It's often something different to what the team would normally do and gives you all a chance to get excited about winning and to see each other in a relaxed setting.
Final choice on the list is a classic Quiz Night. A quiz is something everyone can take part in, and is cheap to organise. You can either pop to your local pub's night or organise your own in a function room, even making it a themed night.
