They were known for creating excellent bass guitars at a price most people could afford and at the time that was Gibson's only weakness against it's only real rival Fender!
Today one of the most popular basses available is the Epiphone EB-3. It has the classic SG body that Angus Young from AC/DC has made so popular. I know he did not play bass but his guitar of choice was an SG and they adopted that body style to this bass.
