subject: Getting The Scoop On Car Rentals [print this page]

So you have reserved a car for your holiday or next business trip and you assume that the agent that you booked with has provided you with all the information that you need for a successful rental. Well you may be surprised to learn that there are many things that you can encounter when you arrive to pick up your vehicle and some of them you may never even been informed of. This is the list of things that they may do but may not tell you about.

Depending on what shows up on your DMV records, you might find you cannot rent one of their vehicles. Several tickets or even a DUI could easily prevent them from renting anything to you. They have every right to run this check on you, when you provide them with your driver's license information.

Before you decide to make vehicle reservations over the phone, be sure to ask about their company policies concerning age. If you are not aware that anyone driving under the age of 25 could add an extra $100 dollars a day to your rates, or if the driver is over the age of 70 they could be denied at any rate. These rates and policies could differ with each company so you might want to shop around till you find the rental company that best serves your needs.

Company rental policies could also increase your rates if you add another driver to the agreement. A spouse generally can be added with no additional cost. Any other driver outside that association could easily add $15 per day to your cost. It is always a good ideal to ask on the phone, long before you show up at the counter, to decide if the car rental company is right for you, or if you need to continue to search for the right car rental company.

Asking all the right question when you inquire about renting a car before you make a reservation, will get your trip off to a good start. When you arrive at the counter, you shouldn't have to deal with undue stress and strain on your trip budget. Any surprises and shocks should happen during a well planned and affordable trip.
