subject: Are Hen Nights Still Appreciated By Women? [print this page]

Traditionally hen nights and stag nights are special parties organized by participants in a wedding to honor the future bride or groom. At first there were only the bachelors parties and later on with the emancipation of women in the 1960s hen nights appeared also. Hen nights are meant to mark the last night a girls spends as an unmarried woman.

There are different types of hen night parties and they vary with the group of friends you have and with your personal preferences. Some of these parties are held at home and they consist of sharing secrets and bringing women together by offering and receiving advice on personal issues. These peaceful parties are the so-called bridal showers. There is also the habit that the bride gives small presents to her guests and is given symbolic gifts.

The most modern theme for the hen night party is the spa session where women can spend a few days away from their daily issues relaxing and being pampered. This practice is very appreciated because it allows the persons involved in the wedding to take a break from the wedding preparations and at the same time become more beautiful and relaxed. The costs of such a party are not overwhelming because usually the participants contribute with money.

Still, instead of the spa session or the bridal shower most of the women prefer the nights of debauchery. During this kind of hen party you should expect anything from getting drunk to inviting male-strippers to the party. These nights were the ones which inspired a special category of hen night accessories. For those ladies who have one too many drinks and forget their addresses or even their own names, there are funny labels worn by all the guests with their name and address on them.

The hen night is a party which is very much connected to the gender equality. Women feel like they have the same right to a pre-wedding party as men do, so even if they choose to transform the night of debauchery into something else they wont give up on this habit. They will keep honoring the bride-to-be one way or another.
