subject: Students can learn life-skills, such as social interaction and how to manage time and money [print this page]

Teachers believe taking a part-time job, even during school holiday, students may suffer if they over-commit and don't get enough rest. Some teachers worries students are tired out after a term at school and have co-curricular activities at school to occupy their time. Work would be extra burden. Holidays are a time to revise and recharge. If the student is helping out at his/her parents stall or saving up for university fees. I'd say go ahead as long as his/her grades aren't affected. Mostly depends on the maturity of the students and his/her motivation. Ultimately, he/she can learn life skills, such as social interaction and how to manage time and money. Working may teach a student responsibility, but as a student his/her basic responsibility is to commit to school. They will do well to acknowledge that societal values will begin to change in response to the varied requirements of globalization.
