subject: Stop Excessive Sweating Problems In Its Tracks [print this page]

When we sweat it is because our body feels that it needs to cool itself down. Normal perspiration is not a problem and is actually beneficial for you. When a person does not sweat then they may find themselves suffering from other health problems. Sweating excessively is not something which occurs normally from physical activities or any emotional distress and should be thoroughly investigated.

Excessive sweating is suffered by many people. These people not only have to endure and suffer the physical manifestations of the condition but also the effects it can have on their work and home lives as well as their social life. Excessive sweating can occur in the feet, armpits, head and hands. People who suffer from excessive sweating can suffer from embarrassment and the normal everyday tasks such as sitting beside another person or shaking the hand of a new acquaintance can become very hard for them.

Reducing the amount of excessive sweat that your body produces can be done by using some of the many different medical and non medical treatments available on the market. The majority of people choose to use antiperspirants to treat their excessive sweating. These antiperspirants contain aluminium chloride which blocks up the sweat glands in order to prevent this salty water from escaping. These strong antiperspirants can cause some rather severe skin irritations in some people and may even lead to skin conditions such as dermatitis. If you suffer from excessive sweating and are considering using antiperspirants such as this and you have sensitive skin then it is recommended that you consult with your doctor first as they could advise you whether or not it will cause you further skin problems.

There is another treatment by the name of Iontophoresis which is performed by a qualified dermatologist. In Iontophoresis a low current of electricity is passed from an electrical instrument into the area affected by the excessive sweating. It is said to be a pain free treatment but provides the same relief as you would get from the high strength antiperspirants.

Another possible treatment to stop sweating is surgery. This isn't something that you should just wake up one morning and decide that you want. It really does need to be thoroughly researched and you need to arm yourself with as much information as you possibly can before deciding on going under the knife. One kind of surgery to stem the sweating involves the removal of the sweat glands in the area where the trouble originates from or a cutting of the nerves which transport signals from your nervous system to your sweat glands. This type of surgery carries the risk of completely stopping your ability to sweat which can be detrimental to your health. Risks such as this are the reasons why surgery should only be a very last result when nothing else works.

There are plenty of people in the world who suffer from sweating in excessive amounts. There are many treatments available that are non invasive which could prove successful for you. Try each treatment one at a time to find the one that suits you best and provides you with the greatest level of relief.
