There is no better time to be outside than in the summer with its moderate temperatures and the added enjoyment of seeing things coming back to life. Consider moving your workout routine outside to jumpstart this season weight loss plan and to take advantage of the season.

If you're used to working out at a fitness club, it may seem difficult to come up with your own routine outdoors. The routine is laid out for you at the gym so you'll have to use a little more imagination to take advantage of the warm weather and fresh air and still get a good cardio workout.

Here are some suggestions for exercising outside. Since they are different than what you might normally do, you may use some different muscles groups and get a bit more overall conditioning.

1. Swimming

If summer weather turns exceedingly hot, beat the heat in the water. Swimming is a kind, yet effective workout because it is low impact for those with joint problems while still being great for your muscles. The average person will burn 360 calories with 30 minutes of swimming and will continue to burn calories for several hours afterward. A swim class can give you the motivation and instruction if you need additional help.

2. In-line Skating

Burning calories is easily done with in-line skating as the average person will burn 563 calories in 30 minutes. You don't need any more equipment than skates, wrist, elbow and knee pads and a helmet to enjoy this wonderful sport alone or with a companion.

3. Trail Running (or walking)

A decent pair of shoes is all you need for trail running or walking if you're lucky enough to live in an area with paved trails for safety. The average person can easily burn 400 calories in 30 minutes.

4. Ultimate Frisbee

This non-contact group sport can be played many months of the year even in cold climates. It is so much fun that it will not seem like exercise and an average person will burn 300 calories in 30 minutes.

5. Tennis

Tennis is a great aerobic sport that you can play with friends or take lessons and meet some people who like to play. The average person can burn 300 calories in 30 minutes! Not much equipment is needed beyond a good pair of tennis shoes for protection from knee and ankle injuries.
