My mother has never known a stranger. My friends feel very comfortable around my mom because she acts more like a friend than a parent. I come home sometimes to find my friends hanging out with my mom without me even knowing! My mom even throws parties for my friends on special occasions!
The birthday party my mother threw for my friend Monkey was epic.
One of my mom's parties stands out above all the others. It was a surprise party for my friend Monkey. I've known Monkey since I was a baby so my mom treats him as if he's a part of the family. On Monkey's 10th birthday, he wanted to go to the zoo, so my mom took a group of us for an afternoon. Unbeknownst to myself or anyone else, my mom arranged for the zoo officials to set up a party for Monkey right outside the monkey exhibit! The decorations were fantastic. The zoo officials did not dissapoint!
There were custom-made banners everywhere at the zoo.
When we first got to the zoo, before we ever made it to the primates, we noticed several oddly placed vinyl banners over the walkways that all directed us towards the monkey exhibit. At first we dismissed these custom banners as nothing more than directional aides, but as we saw more and more of them we gave in and headed towards the monkeys. When we arrived at the monkey exhibit we felt like we were walking into the pages of a book. The exhibit was closed off to the other people at the zoo, and throughout the area there were monkeys roaming free. As a decoration, there were streamers hung across the exhibit from wall to wall. Big bushels of bananas were piled up throughout the room and there were empty barrels crawling with monkeys. What a fantastic sight!

Once in the area, my mom had us gather around an empty wall on the far side of the room. To our amazement, out of nowhere a giant vinyl banner unraveled and covered the empty wall. The custom banner said "Happy Birthday Monkey!" The custom banner was the biggest I had seen that day! The other banners I saw outside the monkey exhibit now made sense, as they matched the giant happy birthday custom banner.
Monkey's surprise 10th birthday party was one I will never forget!
Needless to say, Monkey was thrilled by the party my mom had thrown for him. Even though it's huge, my mom made sure that Monkey saved his custom banner. That banana shaped vinyl banner represents everything that is great about my mom!
